Hello, fishies

Hazel goes to “school” five days a week, theoretically, but I can’t help but take one morning a week off to keep her home with me. We go to the bakery, story time at the library, whatever we fancy. Hazel usually wants to do ALL THE THINGS, so this week we did story time, bakery, and aquarium all before picking up Max at one. (Monday, Max and I had a special morning at his favorite place, the Museum of Natural History, while Hazel was at school.)

Prophet Micah

“Bethlehem, you are one of the smallest towns in Judah, but out of you I will bring a ruler for Israel.”

-Max {Micah 6:2}

Max participated in his first ever (and my first ever!) Christmas pageant this year! He played the prophet Micah, delivering the prophesy regarding Bethlehem. Our town does a beautiful tree-lighting ceremony in the center of town, with local schools and organizations performing throughout the evening. As soon as the tree lights, our church, which is just across the corner from the town park, opens its doors to the community with hot chocolate and cider, carols sung by our choir, a photo booth with fake snow, SO many cookies, and a Christmas pageant outside on the corner! All the kids were adorable, but Prophet Micah was my favorite. He was very nervous about the whole thing but was very brave and delivered his lines clearly.

Lost Tooth

Max lost his first tooth this month! He was eating a cookie at our church’s community Christmas event and discovered his bottom tooth was very loose. By the end of the evening he had wiggled it all the way out. We were at a friend’s house when he handed me his tooth before I realized what it was. 🤢

He was delighted to find enough money under his pillow the next morning to save a little, spend a little, and give a little at church the following Sunday.

Two White Meows

Hazel lost her favorite lovey shortly before Thanksgiving, a white kitty her Ms Shirley and Mr Jeff brought her when they came to visit us. Hazel and the kitty were inseparable, so we were all sad to find her missing. We celebrated Thanksgiving with them and told them our sad news, so we were all pretty excited to see a new kitty (or “White Meow”, as Hazel has named her) in the mail the next week. Shirley and Jeff were so gracious to send her a second kitty. It was soon discovered, however, that the original White Meow was sleeping peacefully in her bed (aka, shoebox), which Hazel had stashed in her closet. Hazel was overjoyed to have TWO white meows, and we were a little embarrassed to have put our friends to the trouble of getting another kitty. Hazel felt no such regret or embarrassment.
