On the way back down from Inspiration Point, when Hazel decided she could hang. We came home with approximately a dozen pinecones and sticks.
Another day, another hike! We spent our Columbus Day hiking Inspiration point, just a couple of mile from home. It was a tough climb for the little guy – 600 ft elevation gain in less than a mile! Hazel was barely winded… but maybe that’s because I wore her on my back the whole way up. Maybe. It was a beautiful day. In the last picture you can see where Carmel River meets the Pacific, and our neighborhood to the far right.
We hiked to the top of Jack’s Peak in Monterey yesterday. Hazel couldn’t hang long, but Max is a great hiker. They are pretty good about encouraging each other when one gets tired. It’s really sweet. We keep the complaining to a minimum with a simple rule: You whine, you lose your everything in your hands and pockets. That means precious pinecones, rocks, and sticks would get left behind, so they stay pretty cheerful. In the last three pictures, you can see Carmel River State Beach close to our house. The piece of land sticking out is Point Lobos.
Train art.

Hazel and I had a bit of time between dropping off Max at school and meeting a friend, so we took a stroll down Fishermans Wharf.
Views from our run in Pacific Grove a few days ago.
Last week at the aquarium.
The Saturday after his birthday, we asked Max what he wanted to do. Hike? Aquarium? Brunch? Playground? Nope. Natural History Museum!
Early October. Every day Hazel doesn’t have school, I ask her what she wants to do that day. Nearly every day, the answer is “see fishies!”
A few weeks ago at Carmel Beach. Max goes to a kids’ program at our church on Wednesday afternoons, so Hazel and I stay close while we wait to pick him up. Fortunately, this beach is walking distance from the church, so we like to hang here when it’s not too breezy.
