February feels like fall here. We don’t mind it.
Making cards for friends and being silly.
On a walk home from the beach last week, we stopped at Starbucks for the much-hyped, limited-run Sakura (cherry blossom) frappuccino and baked donut. I didn’t care for them, but Max liked the donut. Hazel tried to eat the actual blossoms after we found some on base since I didn’t let her have any of the donut.
Cherry blossoms are a BIG DEAL here, ya’ll.
The weather here has been gorgeous and we’ve been soaking up (sometimes literally, at the beach) all the beach days we can get. This was Thursday last week. We can’t go to the beach (or anywhere on this island, really) without bumping into some friends.
Hazel loves digging her toes into the sand. She also loves eating the sand, so the beach isn’t as relaxing with her as the pictures imply. We’ll get there.

Another late afternoon walk. Just a random Tuesday last week, just another gorgeous Okinawa sunset.
Evening walk in the neighborhood. That dreamy, golden, hour-before-sunset light makes even military housing lovely, if you look at it just right.
Getting into mischief in brother’s room since he fell asleep.
Cafe date with friends.
Cold winter walks and a cold dawn. When it was winter a week ago.
And a glimpse of bedtime. It’s hard for Max to nail Hazel down for the bedtime story, so he just follows her around, reading. Also, the laundry basket is not, as it may appear, a random assortment of toys, but a boat full of necessities.
