I have much more to post, but here are some pictures of our week. Lots of slow, early mornings. Also, we found these HUGE grapes that Max deemed too juicy and wouldn’t eat. 🤷🏼♀️ It’s just as well. That one bunch was $7! Max was into numbers this week. He put different combos of numbers together and asked what number they made. When I told him this was 6,185, he asked if that’s how old I am. 😳
Late afternoon walk around the ‘hood.
Aunt Karen came to visit!!! Our good Father blessed us with the perfect timing for Karen to stop by after a trip to Japan for work. We had been praying for an opportunity for this to happen, and it did! We had a lovely weekend talking about the goals we have for our families, the the gifts we see in each other, sharing our burdens, and just enjoying our friendship. It was such a gift to have her here and introduce her to Hazel, and especially right in the middle of a solo-mom stretch. We took her to some of our favorite cafes and bakeries and beach spots, and we had a lovely time. Thank you so much for making this work, Karen! I am so thankful for our friendship!
A cloudy day means bearable outdoor time! Yay!
Ben got home Thursday night from a few weeks in the field, and I’m trying to catch up on all the things that kept us busy while he was gone. We went to this great botanical garden/petting zoo/culture center called Bios on the Hill. It was way more interesting than my pictures imply, because I was busy trying to keep both kids out of the sun and hydrated. There were goats, water buffalo, pigs, and chickens wandering about. Max enjoyed playing on the massive tree forts, and we all enjoyed the boat ride which included a glimpse of a traditional Okinawan dance. We’ll definitely be back once the temperature drops a bit.

This guy (who, let me be clear, dresses himself) just “read” Brown Bear, Brown Bear.
Me: Soon you will be reading lots of books!
Max: Yeah, and writing. Then I can write my own books!
He was vague on the genre and topics, but full of confidence. I can’t wait to read whatever comes out of that busy little mind.
Hazel has a favorite book: Brown Bear, Brown Bear. A fine choice.
Adventures around the neighborhood.
We try a new cafe every week with friends, and almost every cafe is just delicious. Max and Hazel weren’t into pictures that day, apparently.
When this is a mile from home, why not have a weeknight dinner on the beach?
