We celebrated Independence Day on Ikei Island with our church family.  It was soooo hot, so we couldn’t stay as long as we would have liked.  Max played in the sand, got stalked by his daddy, and we all had a great time celebrating baptisms and enjoying friendships.

We finally made it out to a beach that has been on my list for a while on Monday.  It was full of sea glass, driftwood, and tiny hermit crabs.  It was just perfect: empty and slightly overcast.  Max enjoyed collecting wood and sticks and attempting to build some structure.

We had a lovely fourth of July weekend, beach hopping every day.  Sunday night, we went for a walk to the market to buy things for dinner.  By the time we got there, the babes were fast asleep, so we detoured for a burrito truck instead.  We had a little date, eating our burritos and people watching at the beach.  Max woke up just in time to polish off our burritos.  It was cool and breezy, which was a nice change, until we realized it was actually the edge of a hurricane and got drenched walking home.  Still a good way to spend an evening.

Max had swim lessons the past two weeks.  He did so well!  He was nervous, and took it all so seriously (even the silly songs to start off the lessons, last picture), but he had so much fun.  He is about as coordinated as his mama, so we’ll do another round in a few months.  For now, he can float on his back and put on his own goggles, so I call that a win (and a necessity for island life).
